In October 2020, Holyport College opened a public consultation into proposed changes to its Admissions Policy which, if approved would come into effect from September 2022. The proposed changes were as follows:

  • The removal of the Year 9 admissions stream for day students
  • The addition of 26 places for day students in Year 7

The consultation closed on Friday 27th November with 533 respondents. Of these, 498 fully supported the proposed changes (93.4%). The responses to the consultation were reviewed at a meeting of the College's Governing Body on the evening of Thursday 3rd December and the changes to the Admissions Policy were unanimously agreed. In response to feedback provided through the consultation process, it was also agreed to adjust the wording around sibling priority so that siblings who live within the designated area will now receive admissions priority whatever year their older sibling entered the College (so long as they are in Year 7-11 at the point in time the younger sibling is due to join the College).

Head Master, Ben McCarey, reflected on these changes:

"Whilst we are aware that these changes will cause some disappointment to families who would have liked to apply for a Year 9 day place from 2022 onwards, the strength of public support for the changes clearly demonstrates the need for additional local places for young people in the Community which the school serves. We are a small school and we cannot be all things to all people but I am delighted that we will now be able to right a historical wrong and allow far more local people to attend their local school. I'm hugely grateful to the community for all of the support in making this happen and look forward to welcoming additional Year 7 students next September."

The College will still admit Year 9 day students in September 2021 however it will also admit an additional 26 Year 7 day students at this time (as it did in September 2020) in order to prepare for the change the following year.

The College will continue to offer 18 boarding places in Year 9 each year, 9 for boys and 9 for girls.
