Holyport College has appointed John Gale as House Principal. John will work closely with Walter Boyle, Holyport’s Head Master and Ben McCarey, Holyport’s Deputy Head Master in the lead up to the school opening in September 2014. John is currently Housemaster of the senior boarding house at the Licensed Victuallers’ School in Ascot. He has a wealth of boarding experience in independent schools.  John worked at Shiplake College and Downe House before spending 9 years at Wellington College. He has a Master’s Degree from Oxford University in Learning and Teaching, holds the Boarding Schools’ Association Certificate of Professional Practice and is a very experienced teacher of Mathematics. He is very active outside of the classroom having been Master i/c of Rugby, Polo and Ski Racing and an officer in the Combined Cadet Force.  He is a keen musician, playing the saxophone to grade 8 standard.  Music, theatre and sport will feature highly in the boarding ethos at Holyport College along with an interest in current and international affairs. John is keen to develop boarding provision at Holyport College to such an extent that other schools learn from our good practice and adopt our ideas into their boarding programme.  He wants to work with parents and boarders to create a warm and welcoming boarding environment where young people have the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, culturally and in sport.

Walter Boyle, Head Master of Holyport College said, “I very much look forward to working closely with John.  His excellent track record assures me that a very high standard of boarding provision will be established at Holyport College and that our boarders will thoroughly enjoy and benefit from their time with us.  These are exciting times for Holyport College and in John we have found someone who help us to provide first class boarding provision.”
